Ribble Rumble round 3

I hate sunday games. Thanks to my long covid I always fell tired and have regular concentration issues. But I try

I was to meet Nik Gaukroger and his 5614 Medieval German City League an army that should cause many difficulties to mine and I do not even speak of the player skill as everyone knows Nik is a very talented player

As a reminder my list

A few pictures of the deployment

I thought hard about my deployment but forgot a little something that would create havoc in my faulty deployment

Nik had better luck at terrain, got a protected flank, a rough terrain in the middle for his Frisian allies/auxiliaries ( loose and LS ) . I decided to wait for the expected assault but in open terrain

I had hoped to attack on the flank with my cavalry but I had overlooked a small detail . He could have and had many drilled LS close infantry and they were facing my lancers and cataphracts. Not the best beginning for me.

So I started to do the only manoeuvre I could think of : switching deployment in the face of the enemy so I used the drilled aspect of my army and did sent the varangians and an 8 bases skutatoi TUG co cover the front of my cavalry

And I started to sent my cavalry to the center but to NIK's surprise it would take time as during the whole game I will be plagued by lots of black tokens An average of 3-4/turn so it was do what you can and not what you whish

But it worked my infantry managed to cover the redeployment manoeuvers

Meanwhile on the other flank we started a king of "pat" situation as Nik did not want to get out of the terrain that protected his LS

Si it became a skirmish game

I had now completed the infantry redeployment

At last some action as the LS get out of the terrain

And I also went in on the other flank

It ended 6-4 in my favour

It was a very tense and technical game with few fights. It was due to terrain, deployment tokens . Such games do happen. But I ended exhausted , not in body but my mind was in shatters .

Anyway it was nice and thank you Nik for the game
